Once Upon a Stone began with a love story, a rather unconventional engagement ring, and a fascination with gemstones that got slightly out of hand.

A few years ago, my now-husband and I were both immersed in demanding careers, balancing busy schedules while making plans for our future together. During one of our conversations, I casually mentioned that I had never been particularly drawn to traditional diamond engagement rings. I found diamonds a little overrated and was far more intrigued by the colors and individuality of other gemstones.

Rather than question my unconventional taste, he offered a thoughtful proposition: find a gemstone that truly speaks to you, and I'll design a ring around it.

A wonderfully romantic gesture. Neither of us realized quite what he had started.

What began as a search for one special stone opened the door to an extraordinary world of gemstones, and eventually cabochons. I became captivated by the endless variety of colors, patterns, textures, and formations that nature creates so effortlessly.

Before long, I was collecting stones simply for the pleasure of owning and admiring them. No particular purpose, no grand plan — just a growing appreciation for nature's remarkable artistry.

As for the engagement ring, we eventually chose a beautiful Australian sapphire. True to his promise, my husband designed a ring around it and had it made especially for me. I fell in love with it then, and I remain every bit as enchanted by it today.

One might assume that finding the perfect stone would have brought my gemstone search to a satisfying conclusion.

It did not.

Instead, my curiosity continued to grow. Along the way, I met wonderful people from around the world who shared my enthusiasm for these natural treasures. What started as a personal interest became a passion, then a collection, and eventually something that required considerably more storage space than originally anticipated.

At some point, it seemed only reasonable to turn this delightful obsession into something worth sharing.

And so, Once Upon a Stone came to life.

Our collection is not about mass-produced pieces or buying stones by the hundreds simply to fill shelves. It is about discovering individual gemstones, cabochons, and jewelry that stand out for their beauty, character, and uniqueness.

Every piece is selected with the same curiosity and appreciation that began my journey — a love for the unexpected details that make natural stones extraordinary.
